Please note there is a $20 summer registration fee per dancer.  *Classes do NOT meet on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.

The Summer Workshop

The Summer Workshop offers classes in Ballet, Pointe, Modern and Jazz five afternoons per week with the Academy’s outstanding faculty members. The Workshop is designed to help students age 9-13 build strength and technique in preparation for participation in the more advanced Summer Intensive program. The Workshop is offered for five weeks and students have the option to attend three, four or five weeks. Two specialized classes will be offered for pointe work: Pointe Strength Training for students with no prior training in pointe shoes, and Pointe for students with 6 months or more of training in pointe shoes. The Workshop is recommended for Charlotte Ballet Academy Ballet 2 and Ballet 3 students. Students who are not currently enrolled in the Academy will be asked to take a placement class prior to registration. 

Classes

CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Ages 3-4
In a fun, encouraging environment students explore musicality, rhythm, creativity and movement through space. This class introduces age appropriate stretching, basic strengthening, balance, motor skill development and coordination. Class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

PRE-BALLET
Ages 5-6
This class introduces classical ballet vocabulary emphasizing musicality and individual creative expression in an innovative, fun and easy to learn manner. Class meets once per week for 45 minutes.

BEGINNING BALLET
Ages 6-7
Fundamental exercises of ballet are introduced while maintaining an emphasis on musicality, development of overall body strength, alignment and the joy of moving. Students expand their knowledge of French ballet terminology at this level. Class meets once per week for 60 minutes.

CHILDREN’S BALLET
Ages 7-9 *Some experience recommended
A traditionally structured ballet class is offered during hour and a half classes three days a week. Students learn to do a full barre and centre work and will continue to increase their technical proficiency. More challenging steps are introduced with a continued emphasis on musicality, body alignment, overall strengthening and the usage of French terminology. Class meets three times per week for 90 minutes.

CHILDREN’S JAZZ
Ages 7-9
Students learn the basics of classical and contemporary jazz technique while improving rhythm, motor skills and flexibility. Class set to upbeat, familiar music. Class meets once per week for 60 minutes.

CHILDREN’S MODERN
Ages 7-9
A first introduction to modern dance, students explore various movement styles, spatial relationships and rhythmic patterns in a structured class environment. Class meets once per week for 60 minutes.

BOY’S DANCE
Ages 7-9
Class for boys to explore dance in an all male environment. Stretching, strengthening, muscle coordination and musicality are all emphasized through an introduction to a variety of dance styles. The Academy subsidizes this class, which allows talented boys the opportunity to try dance for no cost. A placement class is required for admission. YOUTH BALLET
Ages 10-13
Introductory ballet class for older beginners with little or no formal training. In this traditionally structured ballet class students will begin with a full barre and progress to centre work to gain technical proficiency. Class will emphasize musicality, body alignment, overall strengthening and the usage of French terminology. Class meets twice per week for 90 minutes.

YOUTH MODERN
Ages 10-13
A first introduction to modern dance. Students explore various movement styles, spatial relationships and rhythmic patterns in a structured class environment. The class will emphasize development of core body strength, articulation of the spine and personal expression. Class meets once per week for 60 minutes.

YOUTH JAZZ
Ages 10-13
Students learn the basics of classical and contemporary jazz technique while improving rhythm, motor skills and flexibility. Class set to upbeat, familiar music. Class meets once per week for 60 minutes.

Dress Code

In the proud tradition of classical ballet and in encouragement of each dancer’s positive self-image, we strive to have a clean, uniformed appearance for all our students. Please help us achieve this goal by purchasing leotards, tights and ballet shoes that match our dress code requirements and by fixing your child’s hair for class in the appropriate manner as listed.

Summer Girl’s Ballet Class Attire

Girl’s Leotard: Solid color leotard
Tights: Skin-toned or pink convertible tights
Shoes: Skin-toned or pink leather ballet shoes

Girl’s Hair

Creative Movement and Pre-Ballet students should wear hair pulled back in a bun or ponytail. All Beginning Ballet, Children’s Ballet and Youth Ballet students should wear a high bun on the crown of the head for class. No bangs, loose ends, ponytails or ornamentation is allowed. Please use a hair net to keep fly away ends in place.
