Kobi Kennedy Brinson
Partner, Winston & Strawn LLP
Kobi Kennedy Brinson moved to Charlotte in 1997 from Columbia, SC where she lived for a short time after graduating from Harvard Law School. Ten years later, she fell in love with Charlotte Ballet after seeing a performance featuring the West Charlotte High drumline. In 2010, Kobi founded the Step Up Soiree which has raised over $100,000 for the recruitment, training and development of dancers of color. She was an active member of the Board of Trustees from 2008 to 2015, and is currently a dedicated patron and subscriber.
In her professional life, Kobi is a partner at Winston & Strawn LLP, which is an international law firm serving clients across the globe. She defends clients in regulatory enforcement actions, as well as class action litigation. As a part of Winston’s commitment to pro bono service, Kobi works on behalf of children through the Guardian Ad Litem’s office on appellate matters, and Legal Services of Southern Piedmont on issues related to immigrant minors.
Kobi serves on the Trinity Episcopal School Board of Trustees and The Arts Empowerment Project Advisory Board, and is a member of Jack and Jill of America. Inc., The Girl Friends, Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She and husband, Ron, have two children and a devoted dog named Mike the Dog who all love her alma mater, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her favorite pastimes are being a Soccer/Golf/Gymnastics Mom, collecting art, and, of course, dancing – which she does whenever and wherever possible.
Before joining the corporate world, she represented indigent clients, so dancing on behalf of Legal Services of Southern Piedmont (LSSP) and Legal Aid of North Carolina-Charlotte (LANC) combines her passion for ballet and helping people who need legal assistance to meet their basic needs.
