Night at the Nutcracker: 5 Tips for the Ultimate Holiday Party

As we turn our calendars to October, Fall is finally starting to show its colors. Stepping into our favorite retail shops, we can’t help but notice the holiday decorations lining the shelves as a temptation to indulge in the festive spirit early. No matter your traditions for the season, Charlotte Ballet’s Night at the Nutcracker Event Planner Emily Portal has five tips on how to make your holiday gatherings especially memorable.

1. Plan Ahead

December social calendars seem to fill up earlier and earlier each year. If you are planning on hosting your own soirée, pick a date and mail those invitations out sooner rather than later! Want to take the stress out of planning your own? On December 2, Charlotte Ballet will be hosting the ultimate holiday party, Night at the Nutcracker, where guests will be the first to see Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s all new production of Nutcracker before it opens to the public. Nutcracker‘s all new sets and costumes were made possible by a generous gift from the McColl family in honor of Jane Spratt McColl.

2. Create Lasting Memories

This time of year is about making memories and 2016 is all about photo memories. A DIY photo booth for your holiday party is a fun way for your guests to leave with a memento from the evening. It is easy to construct, pull together a few props and a selfie stick and allow your guests to use their imagination. We will have Nutcracker’s Snow Queen and King ready for their photo op at the Night at the Nutcracker TapSnap photo booth.

3. Mix Up Your Menu

No guest likes to leave a party hungry and no one looks forward to seeing a rubber chicken and broiled vegetables buffet either. Don’t be afraid to take a risk with your menu. A variety of small  bites and a signature cocktail, like a salted caramel eggnog, is a sure way to excite your guests. Need an idea? Our Night at the Nutcracker guests will enjoy caramel apple cookies with burnt bourbon ice cream sandwiches during the Land of Sweets reception. These are so easy to recreate at home, too!

4. Incorporate Variety

One of the challenges of planning your own holiday party is providing entertainment for the entire group. Rave party reviews are dependent on a fun time had by all. A variety of activities will ensure just that! At Charlotte Ballet’s Night at the Nutcracker, adults will enjoy live entertainment and a gift perfect silent auction while children will enjoy their own activities in Snowflake Village.

5. Give Back

Tis’ the Season to give back. Involve your favorite charitable organization at your holidaygathering by accepting donations or collecting items that are in critical need. At Charlotte Ballet’s Night at the Nutcracker event proceeds will benefit scholarship opportunities to aspiring Charlotte dancers within both Charlotte Ballet’s national award winning community outreach program, Reach, as well as the Charlotte Ballet Academy.
