Renowned Choreographer, Alonzo King, and Charlotte Ballet

As we continue to celebrate our 50th anniversary, we’re excited to share our milestones with you. One significant moment in our history is our partnership with renowned choreographer Alonzo King. His piece “MAP” was the first ballet that former Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux commissioned for the company in 1998. Charlotte Ballet performed several other of King’s works, including “Dreamer” pictured here. We restaged MAP in spring 2017, Jean-Pierre’s last season before his retirement, and Charlotte Ballet II performed it again in 2019 for the lecture demonstrations in schools. We’re honored to have King’s influence on the Company, and we look forward to sharing more of our history with you.

We invite you to join us for another milestone moment – our 50th Anniversary Celebration, October 7-9 at the Belk Theater. Purchase tickets here: https://charlotteballet.org/tickets/50th-anniversary-celebration/
