CHARLOTTE BALLET SUMMER TOUR
The company’s Charlotte home season runs from October through April, but there are three chances to catch us this summer: opening night of AMERICAN DANCE FESTIVAL, at Appalachian State University’s AN APPALACHIAN SUMMER FESTIVAL and during a four-week residency at CHAUTAUQUA INSTITUTION.

AMERICAN DANCE FESTIVAL

At American Dance Festival in Durham, NC, Charlotte Ballet is joined by a collective of other performers to celebrate the festival’s opening night.
Charlotte Ballet will perform Ohad Naharin’s Minus 16. Set to an eclectic score ranging between Dean Martin, mambo, techno and traditional Israeli music, Minus 16 uses improvisation and Naharin’s signature “Gaga” method, to craft an experience with elements of spontaneity, while breaking down the barriers between the dancers and audience.

AN APPALACHIAN SUMMER FESTIVAL

Charlotte Ballet’s performance is filled to the brim with excitement! Featuring an all-star lineup of choreographers, this performance will leave you feeling uplifted, energized and in awe.
The performance includes two duets spanning form classical to contemporary:
– Enjoy the opulence of classical ballet with the wedding scene from Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s Sleeping Beauty.
– See the dancers excel in a pas de deux from George Balanchine’s Stars and Stripes, staged by Patricia McBride, Charlotte Ballet’s associate artistic director, former New York City Ballet star and a Kennedy Center Honoree.
The performance also includes two masterworks you don’t want to miss.
– Visionary choreographer Alonzo King’s ballet MAP, a metaphor for the different paths individuals must choose in life.
– Mark Godden’s Angels in the Architecture is an ode to the simplicity and grace of the Shaker lifestyle set to composer Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring.”
