BREAKING BOUNDARIES

October 5 – 28, 2023 I Center for Dance

Charlotte Ballet’s 2023/2024 Season kicks off with dynamic and exhilarating works that push limits and inspire audiences of all ages. Breaking Boundaries welcomes back the ground-breaking choreography of Ohad Naharin, best known for his smashing hit Minus 16. Experience the unconventional masterpiece, Kamuyot, touching “on the mischievous, free, and playful places in all kids – whether they are five or 80 years old. An inspiring and moving experience that allows the audience “to be with” dance and not only watch it.” Rounding out the program, Charlotte Ballet is proud to present a much-anticipated world premiere by Mthuthuzeli November, a South African award-winning choreographer and recipient of the U.K.’s prestigious Lawrence Olivier Award for Best Dance Production in 2020.

NUTCRACKER

December 8-23, 2022 I Belk Theater

Experience true wonder with your loved ones during the holiday season with our most beloved classic, Nutcracker! Glittering snowfall, jumping candy canes and the magnificent Land of Sweets – the holidays have never felt so magical. Performed at the elegant Belk Theater in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, there’s no better tradition than experiencing Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s choreography with Tchaikovsky’s classic score performed live by the celebrated Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.

COME TO LIFE

March 7 -9 I Knight Theater

Join Charlotte Ballet in the exploration of love and life at Knight Theater. This performance series, Come To Life, features contemporary works by extraordinary artists. Charlotte Ballet is excited to present Artistic Director Alejandro Cerrudo’s Little Mortal Jump – a work that takes you on an emotional journey anchored by an eclectic music selection. Experience Jiří Kylián’s iconic Petite MortCreated for Nederlands Dans Theater for the 1991 Salzburg Festival, the piece is set to music by the legendary composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Completing the program, Charlotte Balletbrings you a world premiere by the award-winning choreographer Penny Saunders.

SWAN LAKE

May 3 – 12 I Knight Theater

For the first time ever, Charlotte Ballet presents one of the world’s most famous classical ballets that has transcended generations, Swan Lake. You won’t want to miss the spectacular choreography by Ib Andersen, accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s hauntingly beautiful score brought to life by the exquisite Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.

CHOREOGRAPHIC WORKSHOP: FLIP

June 5 – 8 I Center for Dance

Dancers flip roles for our choreographic workshop series: FLIP (pun intended). Dancers take the lead at the front of the room to choreograph and coordinate new works. This series offers Dancers an opportunity to refine choreographic skills and develop new understandings of all the efforts that go into producing performances. This series focuses and uplifts the artists that live in Charlotte – giving them an opportunity to creatively thrive in the Queen City.
