Adult drop-in classes are a great way to get moving! We have a variety of classes available for all dancers, from beginner to more advanced! Join our fabulous community of adult dancers at the Center for Dance in beautiful Uptown Charlotte.

TUESDAYS
Intermediate/Advanced Adult Tap:
6:30 – 8 PM with Gretchen Jax
Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Participants will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. This class is for participants who have a good knowledge of tap vocabulary. At least two years of tap experience is highly recommended. Participants will be introduced to more advanced concepts of musicality and complex combinations along with developing speed, strength and clarity of sound. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique while having fun!
Open Adult Ballet
7 – 8:30 PM with Mavis Scully
This class has a more complete vocabulary with an emphasis on developing strength and movement quality. It is geared towards those with three or more years of ballet experience. Class will include barre work and center combinations. Comfortable dancewear and/or workout apparel is ideal for these classes. Ballet slippers are recommended and can be purchased at the following local retailers or found online: Morris Costumes, M.A,Zing Dancewear, and Lebo’s.

Fundamentals of Ballet
6:30 – 8 PM with Lauren Skrabalak
Fundamentals of Ballet is great for those with limited or no ballet training. This class will introduce basic vocabulary, positions and combinations at the barre. Comfortable dancewear and/or workout apparel is ideal for this class. Ballet slippers are recommended, but not required, and can be purchased at the following local retailers or found online: Morris Costumes, M.A,Zing Dancewear, and Lebo’s.
Broadway Dancer’s Warm Up:
6:30 – 8 PM with Mavis Scully
This class is a freeing, fun way to end your workday! You’ll experience a combination of ballet and jazz dance styles to warm up and invigorate your body, mind, and spirit. A typical class will include a simple ballet barre, floor work/stretching, ab work, jazz combinations, movement across the floor, and turns! You’ll explore and learn short combinations from great Musical Theatre choreographers such as Fosse, Robbins, deMille, Bennet, and more! This class is encouraging to beginners but also intriguing to more experienced dancers.

Power Flow Yoga:
6 – 7 PM with Amber Bennett
Power Flow Yoga is a dynamic, vigorous style of yoga focusing on moving through a series of poses in synchronicity with the breath. Classes will focus on muscle strength and stability, with emphasis on alignment and breath work. Optional hands-on assists will be offered, as well as modifications for different skill levels, making it accessible to a wide range of practitioners.
Fundamentals of Ballet II:
6:30 – 8 PM with Tammy Rhoades-Baldwin
This class is a great step up from our Fundamentals I class, allowing dancers to apply gained knowledge and technique in a slightly faster paced environment. This class will reinforce basic vocabulary, positions and combinations at the barre while also introducing progressive center work. Fundamentals II is a bridge between our Fundamentals I and Adult Open Ballet.

WEDNESDAYS
Dance Fit:
6 – 7 PM with Sophie Mercure
Dance Fit is programmed to be approachable and accessible to everyone. As a dance based workout class, there is NO DANCE EXPERIENCE NEEDED! Expect to challenge and improve balance, core stability, stamina, and build long lean muscles. The class incorporates follow-along dance cardio bursts, and a variety of sculpting/conditioning exercises using light weights and bands. Expect to sweat and let go moving to the beat in Dance Fit!
Fundamentals of Tap (Beginner):
6:30 – 7:30 PM with Gretchen Jax
This class is designed for beginners and provides a foundation in basic tap vocabulary, rhythms, and fundamentals like balance and alignment. It emphasizes learning fundamental steps like flaps, shuffles, and cramp rolls, along with understanding time and rhythm. These classes help dancers develop a sense of musicality and introduce the joy of tap dancing.

PRICING & REGISTRATION
- Single Class: $18
Payment can be made to the front desk at time of arrival by cash, check or card swipe, OR pre-register HERE.
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged so that our team can monitor the available spots in each class. In the event a class is full, you will be placed on a waitlist.
All Drop-in class tuition is non-refundable in the event of absence.

INSTRUCTORS
Charlotte Ballet Academy is the first school of ballet in the state to be affiliated with a nationally renowned, professional ballet company. Our faculty is top notch! Instructors are former professional dancers or have received degrees from prestigious college dance programs.
PARKING
Free parking is available in the gravel lot behind the Center for Dance. Space is subject to availability. There is metered parking on the side streets. Please note that Charlotte Ballet does not guarantee space for any of its classes and is not responsible for any damage that occurs to vehicles during class.
ARRIVAL
Adult Drop-In classes at the Center for Dance are generally held on the second floor. All dancers must enter through the Tryon Street doors and check in at the lobby reception desk prior to class. The front desk staff on duty will then direct you to the correct studio and numbered spot. Cubbies are available outside each studio for personal belongings.
DRESS CODE
There is no official dress code for drop-in classes, and any comfortable workout attire is acceptable. Please utilize proper footwear for your specific class.
