Maia was born in Roseville, California, and began dancing at the age of six. She trained at various local and Bay Area studios under the instruction of many teachers, including Pat Colgate, Viktor Kabaniaev, and Tina DeVine. She has also attended several summer programs, such as The New Ballet School in San Jose, Bolshoi Ballet Academy in NYC, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and Milwaukee Ballet.
When she was sixteen, Maia began her two years as a Sacramento Ballet Trainee where she had the opportunity to dance soloist roles in classical works such as Paquita, La Bayadère, Napoli, and Le Corsaire. She was then promoted to Sacramento Ballet 2 during the Second Company’s inaugural year under the direction of Jill Marlow Krutzkamp and continued performing featured roles in classics like Swan Lake as well as in new works by Colby Damon and Julia Feldman. After joining Sacramento Ballet’s main company as an Apprentice in 2023, Maia had the opportunity to perform several featured roles in works by Ihsan Rustem, Val Caniparoli, and a new work by Andrea Schermoly.
