SENSORY FRIENDLY PERFORMANCES

Charlotte Ballet is thrilled to offer sensory-friendly performances to children, families and adults in our community. Together with A Kid Again, Allegro Foundation…a Champion for Children with Disabilities, Autism Society of NC, Autism Strong, Down Syndrome Associaiton of Greater Charlotte, Exceptional Children’s Assistance Center, Gigi’s Playhouse, HopeKids Charlotte, InReach NC, Mecklenburg County Therapeutic and Inclusive Recreation Services and Next Step Clubhouse. Charlotte Ballet has re-worked Nutcracker and our Spring Story Ballet into sensory-friendly performances to provide a more comfortable and inviting environment to enjoy ballet.

Ticket reservations open October 1, 2024. Reservations are limited to 10 tickets per individual.

WHAT MAKES PERFORMANCES SENSORY FRIENDLY?

Abbreviated performance length and extended intermission
House lights remain at half brightness and sound is controlled through recorded music
Entry and exit to the theater is not restricted – you may come and go as you please
Designated quiet areas are available
Charlotte Ballet Dancers, staff, ushers and volunteers receive training to ensure an excellent experience for your family

SOCIAL NARRATIVE STORY

Download the Social Narrative Story for attending a Sensory Friendly Nutcracker performance. This short, step by step presentation will explain to you and your child what to expect during the performance, including when there will be sensory changes. It also introduces the story so you and your family can be excited for the show! Nutcracker

Experience true wonder with your loved ones during the holiday season with our most beloved classic, Nutcracker! Glittering snowfall, jumping candy canes and the magnificent Land of Sweets – the holidays have never felt so magical. Performed at the elegant Belk Theater in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, there’s no better tradition than experiencing Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s choreography with Tchaikovsky’s classic score.
