The Jr. Intensive is designed to help students age 9-12 build strength and technique in preparation for more advanced summer programs down the road. Dancers train with esteemed Charlotte Ballet Academy faculty in Ballet, Pointe Strength Training, and other Specialty Classes such as Musical Theatre/Jazz.
Students who have already begun their pointe training may bring their pointe shoes, and faculty members will determine on an individual basis whether students are eligible to wear pointe shoes for this program.
Both daytime and evening options are available. Or both!
PROGRAMS
The Jr. Intensive is recommended for students who have at least 2 – 3 years of continuous ballet training and are ready to begin or continue Pre-Pointe work. This curriculum is best suited for dancers currently enrolled in Charlotte Ballet Academy Ballet II and sometimes Ballet III. Students not currently enrolled in the Academy must take a placement class prior to registration.
Each Jr. Intensive Day Program meets for two consecutive weeks. The June Program runs Weekdays – Saturdays, June 11 – 14, June 16 – 18, and June 20 – 21.
The Academy is closed on June 19; there will be no classes in observance of Juneteenth.
The July/August Program runs Mondays – Fridays, July 28 – August 1 and August 4 – 8.
Each Program Day will include Ballet Technique, Pre-Pointe Strengthening, and other Specialty Classes, 9 AM – 3:30 PM.
The Jr. Intensive Master Classes meet every Tuesday evening, June 24 – July 22. Dancers may drop-in on a class-by-class basis.
Each Master Class will consist of 90 minutes of Ballet Technique followed by 30 minutes of Choreography or Conditioning, 5 – 7 PM.
PLACEMENT CLASSES
Students not currently enrolled in Charlotte Ballet Academy must take a placement class in order to register for a Jr. Intensive program. All placement classes are held at The Patricia McBride & Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance at 701 N. Tryon St.
Dancers will be divided into two levels: Level A is tailored for students with accelerated proficiency to refine the qualities of their technique, and Level B is designed to fortify fundamentals of each student’s ballet technique and movement qualities. Both levels will share curriculum and the opportunity to work with the same faculty members.
After an initial assessment, dancers will be allowed to register for their program of choice.
