Pretty/Powerful Season Highlights:

1. We’re Joining the World-Wide Celebration

Dance companies around the world are celebrating the centennial of two landmark artists–Leonard Bernstein and Jerome Robbins. 

Charlotte Ballet is celebrating with many international companies, including Miami City Ballet, New York City Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, English National Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Houston Ballet and many more!

Charlotte Ballet is honoring these legends during Fall Works with a performance of Robbins’ Fancy Free set to Bernstein’s score.

Resident Choreographer Sasha Janes, called “a choreographer to watch” by the Washington Post, is also creating a world premiere set to Bernstein’s score. Don’t miss the amazing tribute performances at Fall Works. 

2. Fall Works’ Choreographer Tailors Work to Dancers’ Talents

French choreographer Medhi Walerski is setting his acclaimed work Petite Cérémonie on the company. After the first rehearsal with our dancers, Medhi has tailored the work to showcase the talents of the company. Don’t miss the new version at Fall Works!

3. Returning Favorites

Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s holiday spectacular Nutcracker is returning again this December. It is complete with extravagant sets and costumes and the treasured music of Tchaikovsky performed live.

Another family favorite is returning the Charlotte Ballet this spring! Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s gravity-defying Peter Pan promises high-flying adventure, spectacular sets and costumes and marvelous dance for an experience you’ll never, never forget! 

4. A Collaborative Innovative Works

This season, Innovative Works is a daring experiment to bring the works of William Shakespeare to life through a creative collaboration with UNC Charlotte.

Artistic Director Hope Muir paired choreographer Peter Chu with Robinson Distinguished Professor of Shakespeare Dr. Andrew Hartley and Stephanie Martinez with playwright theatre and dance historian Dr. Lynne Conner.

5. Renowned Choreographers Return

Acclaimed choreographer Helen Pickett returns to Charlotte Ballet to commission a new work on the company. Johan Inger’s stylistic game changer Walking Mad will also return for another run. Don’t miss these two incredible choreographers in Spring Works.

6. Extended Weekend of Choreographic Lab

Artistic Director Hope Muir redesigned Choreographic Lab last season. For one night, audiences were captivated by the up-and-coming choreographic voices of Charlotte Ballet dancers. Because it was such a success and quickly sold out, this year we are expanding it to three nights.

Choreographic Lab is a performance designed to give aspiring choreographers the opportunity to present work, while also allowing the audience the chance to experience new choreographic voices.
