Supporting the LGBTQI+ Community
Today, as we reflect upon The Stonewall Riots, also known as the Stonewall Uprising, we are reminded of the importance of activism and support of the LGBTQI+ community. In support of the LGBTQI+ Community in Charlotte, we’ve put together a list of resources to consider donating to during Pride Month and year-round.
The Plus Collective
“Guided by principles. Inspired by diversity. Supported by community. The Plus Collective shares a humanity based in love.
The Plus Collective is a giving program and foundation that awards grants to organizations that support the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community in the Charlotte, North Carolina region while also cultivating partnerships with community allies.”
The Gay Men’s Chorus of Charlotte
“Through artistic achievement, education, and engagement, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Charlotte endeavors to create a society which values and respects its LGBTQ+ members.
Hope for the future. Pride in ourselves and each other as LGBTQ+ people. Equality of all”
Campus Pride
“Campus Pride represents the leading national nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization for student leaders and campus groups working to create a safer college environment for LGBTQ students. The organization is a volunteer-driven network “for” and “by” student leaders. The primary objective of Campus Pride is to develop necessary resources, programs and services to support LGBTQ and ally students on college campuses across the United States.”
PFLAG
“Founded in 1973, PFLAG is the first and largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and their families. PFLAG’s network of hundreds of chapters and more than 250,000 members and supporters works to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.”
Time Out Youth
“Time Out Youth Center is a place where you can experience a sense of belonging and community. Whether you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, a straight ally – or just don’t want to be labeled, you will be welcomed here. Some of our youth are out, some are partially out, and some are not out at all. Time Out Youth Center offers a safe space for all and fully respects the journey of each individual. While at Time Out Youth, you are not expected to be anyone or anything except who you are.”
Thank you to all of these organizations and so many others for being leaders in the Charlotte LGBTQI+ community.
