1970s Inspired

This season, Innovative Works is continuing our 50th-anniversary celebration by paying homage to the year of Charlotte Ballet’s founding – 1970! The 70s was one of the most stylish decades of all time, whether it’s through iconic fashion staples like bell bottom jeans, peace sign accessories, or classic vinyl records. What’s your favorite 70s-inspired item that you rock today? Here’s what our dancers had to say!

I went through a big 70s phase in my early 20s so yes I have lots of suede fringe and things that look like I’m about to head out to Woodstock. I won’t say it was my best fashion phase. – Sarah Hayes Harkins

The closest thing would be my roommate’s vinyl record player! Fun to listen to that with some tea in the evenings. – David Preciado

I don’t have any 70’s clothes, but it’s my favorite era of music. It makes up about 80% of my playlist! – Emerson Dayton

Experience this blast from the past with us at Innovative 1970! New works will be presented by 2019 Princess Grace Award winner for choreography, Rena Butler, along with NCDT Alumni, Ja’Malik, and Charlotte Ballet Company Artist, Andrés Trezevant. Innovative 1970 will run February 4-26 at the Centre for Dance. We hope to see you there!
